What happened: Rodriguez recorded four outs in his first major league appearance and finished with two strikeouts. Toronto promoted the right-hander on Sept. 18 after designating Michael Lorenzen for assignment.

Why it matters: A clean first outing gives Toronto another relief option at a point in the season when bullpen depth gets tested almost every night. It also made the club's roster move an immediate part of the pitching plan rather than a wait-and-see promotion.

What to watch: Watch how quickly Toronto turns back to Rodriguez and whether he stays in a meaningful relief role over the next few games.
