What happened: Kaiden Guhle will make his season debut on Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings. The Montreal Canadiens defenseman is returning to preseason action ahead of his initial recovery timeline.

Why it matters: The accelerated recovery allows the Canadiens to evaluate his conditioning before the 2026-27 regular season begins. Montreal can now integrate him into the defensive pairings as the coaching staff finalizes the roster.

What to watch: His ice time and deployment in the preseason contest will serve as indicators for his opening night readiness.
