What happened: Steve Kerr said Yaxel Lendeborg deserves a major role right away, citing his play from summer league and pickup runs through camp in Hawaii. The praise extends a fast rise for Lendeborg, who was already lined up to open preseason in the starting five.

Why it matters: A public endorsement this strong from Kerr raises the odds that Lendeborg's camp buzz survives the first round of preseason rotation cuts. It also places him in the same roster-building conversation Kerr discussed around Steph Curry's pay cut and cap flexibility.

What to watch: Sunday's preseason opener should show whether Lendeborg stays with the first unit or settles into a heavy bench role. Early substitution patterns will be the clearest test of how much of Kerr's praise carries straight into game action.
