It’s a hometown party now that K-Mac is back in town 🎉 PA native Kevin McGonigle is heading home for his first All-Sta Via @MLB on X

What happened: Detroit Tigers rookie Kevin McGonigle is heading back to his native Pennsylvania for his first career All-Star Game. The selection caps a breakout rookie season that has made him a central figure in Detroit's current run.

Why it matters: McGonigle's rise comes as the Tigers ride a six-game winning streak, having overtaken Munetaka Murakami earlier this season in the AL Rookie of the Year voting. A hometown All-Star nod adds another marker to a season Detroit has leaned on for national attention.

By the numbers: The Tigers enter play at 44-50 with a six-game winning streak, scoring 4.3 runs per game and allowing 4.0 over that stretch.

What to watch: McGonigle will represent Detroit at All-Star Week festivities before the Tigers return to regular-season play against the Phillies.
