What happened: Per Jake Fischer, the Lakers, Bucks and Grizzlies are exploring trades to clean up back-of-roster logjams, while Charlotte is weighing locker-room value of retaining Pat Connaughton. The situations moved to the forefront after the Clippers waived Cam Christie, with personnel monitoring back-of-roster moves around the league before the cutdown deadline.

Why it matters: Teams over the limit must shed contracts to reach compliance, with trades offering a path to avoid losing players without return. Back-of-roster choices shape locker-room balance and determine which camp deals convert to open standard spots.

What to watch: The cutdown deadline will settle whether any trade materializes and whether Charlotte retains Connaughton.
