What happened: Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog made NHL history Tuesday by winning both the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy and the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award. The announcement comes as the Hurricanes defeated the Golden Knights 5-3 in recent postseason play, with Landeskog's sweep recognizing his return from a rare knee cartilage transplant.

Why it matters: Landeskog’s presence was a catalyst for the Avalanche’s 121-point Presidents' Trophy season, with the team posting a 45-7-8 record in games he played. His return follows the recent defensive recognition of Zach Werenski as the league continues to reveal its 2026 honors.

What to watch: The remaining major NHL trophies, including the Hart and Vezina trophies, will be presented at the formal awards ceremony in Las Vegas on June 27.
