What happened: The Las Vegas Raiders highlighted rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza in a social media post celebrating his Cuban heritage. The top selection in the 2026 NFL Draft out of Indiana has yet to see meaningful playing time in his debut campaign.

Why it matters: Las Vegas previously confirmed the rookie would serve as a backup for the current season. While developing a young passer behind an established veteran is a classic strategy, keeping a highly touted prospect on the sidelines delays his practical development.
