What happened: Lauri Markkanen converted at the rim off the dribble for the Utah Jazz as play remains in progress against the Los Angeles Lakers. His basket accounts for 2 of Utah's 8 points alongside 1 rebound and 0 assists.

Why it matters: Utah is establishing interior scoring early against the Lakers' half-court defense during regular-season action. Getting Markkanen downhill to the rim forces Los Angeles to pull its perimeter defenders inside.

By the numbers: Score: Utah Jazz 8, Los Angeles Lakers 2 (in progress). Lauri Markkanen: 2 PTS, 1 REB, 0 AST (game-high 2 points).

What to watch: Play continues in Utah with the Jazz holding an 8-2 edge over the Lakers.
