What happened: The fight involved Brandt Clarke after an exchange MacKinnon took exception to. MacKinnon said afterward: ‘He didn’t say a great word to me.’

Why it matters: The exchange followed a two-goal night that fueled three power-play goals through two periods for Avalanche, a total reached twice all last season. An opening-night edge rooted in last spring's playoff meeting sets an early tone for the rematch.

What to watch: Watch for any league follow-up on the fight and whether Colorado's power play carries over.
