What happened: Patrick Mahomes targeted Tyquan Thornton on deep shots. The completions turned into explosive gains.

Why it matters: Thornton, a 2022 second-round pick out of Baylor, adds vertical speed to the passing game. Sustained deep production forces safeties to defend more grass.

By the numbers: Thornton: 19 catches for 438 yards and 3 touchdowns across 14 games in 2025. Drafted 50th overall in 2022 out of Baylor.

What to watch: Watch whether Mahomes keeps testing downfield with Thornton in coming weeks.
