Marchenko's Instagram move renews Canadiens trade chatter

His $3.85M cap hit runs through the 2026-27 season

Wire Report IntelligenceUpdated Jul 291 min read

What happened: Kirill Marchenko remains tied to Montreal Canadiens speculation after recent Instagram activity. He produced 27 goals and 40 assists in 76 games during 2025-26.

Why it matters: A 67-point forward on that contract would materially alter Montreal's 2026-27 roster. Social-media activity alone does not establish that a trade is advancing.

By the numbers: Marchenko recorded 67 points in 76 games in 2025-26: 27 goals and 40 assists. His contract carries a $3.85 million cap hit through 2026-27.

What to watch: Training camp is the next concrete checkpoint for the Canadiens' 2026-27 roster. Watch for formal trade or contract developments before then.
