What happened: The Miami Marlins have designated Christopher Morel for assignment, and manager Clayton McCullough spoke about the decision. Morel's season was derailed from the start by injuries, including an oblique strain that delayed his debut. He never settled into a consistent role before the move.

Why it matters: The decision clears a roster spot for a Miami club hovering at 39-38 and trying to stay above .500. Morel was expected to add right-handed pop, but the injury-marred year left the front office moving on. McCullough's public comments signal the team is closing the book on the experiment rather than waiting longer for a turnaround.

What to watch: Morel now enters the seven-day DFA window, during which he can be traded, claimed off waivers, or released. Watch how Miami fills the open roster spot and whether another club takes a flyer on a bounce-back.
