What happened: The Miami Marlins selected Jacob Lombard with the 14th overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft. Lombard is the son of Detroit Tigers bench coach George Lombard and the brother of New York Yankees prospect George Lombard Jr.

Why it matters: The pick keeps Lombard in South Florida, continuing a family pipeline into professional baseball. Wire Report has previously covered the same Jacob Lombard leaning on his baseball family ties at the MLB Draft Combine, where scouts drew comparisons to established infield talent. His brother, George Lombard Jr., remains in the Yankees' system.

What to watch: Lombard now begins his transition to the Marlins' minor league system, while the family watches George Lombard Jr.'s progress in the Yankees' organization.
