What happened: New York declined to tender Maggio a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent. The 2022 fifth-round pick agreed to a one-year deal in Russia after three-plus seasons with Bridgeport.

Why it matters: The move ends his path through the Islanders' development system without an NHL appearance. He joins Salavat Yulaev after producing consistently at the AHL level.

By the numbers: Maggio recorded 35 goals and 46 assists for 81 points in 187 AHL games. He was selected 142nd overall in the 2022 NHL Draft.

What to watch: His role and debut date with Salavat Yulaev will come into focus before the KHL season.
