Walter Clayton Jr.: Dallas Maverick. We have signed @w1clayton to a two-way contract ✍️ #MFFL https://t.co/EMlB4PKJnP Via @dallasmavs on X

What happened: Clayton cleared waivers at the 5 p.m. ET deadline and immediately joined the active roster in Houston for the 2026-27 season opener against the Rockets. The former Florida guard took the floor shortly after finalizing the agreement.

Why it matters: Dallas created space for the move by waiving two players on Oct. 17, beating out the Sacramento Kings after Sacramento pursued the 2025 No. 18 overall pick in trade talks over the weekend. Securing a recent first-round selection on a two-way deal adds backcourt depth while preserving a standard 15-man roster spot.

What to watch: Clayton will divide his active NBA game limit between Dallas and the G League as the 2026-27 regular season gets underway.
