What happened: Mercedes rolled out a heavily revised floor and new sidepods for this week's Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia. The package is aimed at the W17 as the team tries to sharpen a car that has set the pace for much of the 2026 season.

Why it matters: The update targets two major aerodynamic areas at a point when Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull have all challenged Mercedes at different stages of the year. More stable control at the front would strengthen Mercedes' push in both 2026 championships as the calendar moves deeper into its final stretch.

What to watch: Practice running should show whether the reworked floor changes Mercedes' balance over long stints. Qualifying will offer the first direct comparison between the new package and Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull.
