What happened: The New York Mets are hiring Johnny Washington as a co-hitting coach. Washington previously worked as the Atlanta Braves' minor league hitting coordinator.

Why it matters: The hire adds leadership to New York's offensive staff as the organization prepares for the upcoming season. Bringing in Washington also pulls coaching talent directly from an NL East division rival.

What to watch: The Mets are expected to finalize their remaining coaching staff appointments ahead of offseason workouts.
