What happened: Jacob Misiorowski threw the pitch to open Game 1, setting a World Series velocity record on his first offering.

Why it matters: The pitch exceeded the previous Series-wide mark by 0.3 mph. It gives Game 1 a new benchmark for pitch speed before the first at-bat is complete.

By the numbers: 103.5 mph on the opening pitch; 103.2 mph was the previous World Series high. Misiorowski opened an earlier postseason start with a 104.8 mph pitch.

What to watch: His remaining Game 1 innings will show whether he sustains that opening velocity.
