What happened: Sam Stejskal responded to longtime MLS writer Matt Doyle's announcement that, after 15 years at MLSsoccer, he is leaving to build something new on his own. Stejskal recalled that Doyle once urged him to walk away from a higher-paying corporate offer to take a job at Real Salt Lake that paid less than half as much. He said he was thankful for the advice and eager to subscribe to Doyle's new venture.

Why it matters: The exchange reflects a shifting MLS media landscape, with established league reporters leaving institutional outlets to launch independent projects. Doyle has been one of the most-read voices covering the league, and his move signals the broader pull of subscriber-funded soccer coverage in the U.S.

What to watch: Watch for details on Doyle's new independent project and how MLS coverage realigns as veteran writers strike out on their own.
