What happened: Todd Monken said Deshaun Watson gave Cleveland the best chance to move the ball and score points. He added that Watson, like every player, must continue proving himself.

Why it matters: The call ends a competition judged on the full body of work across the offseason program, camp, a joint practice and two preseason games. A stable designation gives Cleveland a fixed starter for its regular-season preparation.

What to watch: Cleveland closes the preseason Thursday before Watson starts the Sept. 13 road opener.
