Monterrey agrees deal for MLS scoring leader Hugo Cuypers

What happened: The clubs settled on a $7.5 million fee with another $500,000 in add-ons. Cuypers also agreed personal terms with Monterrey.

Why it matters: The move removes the league's leading scorer from a Chicago side sitting third in the Eastern Conference. It also leaves Lionel Messi and Petar Musa as MLS's active scoring leaders with 12 goals each.

By the numbers: Cuypers scored 13 goals in 989 minutes, a rate of 1.18 per 90. He produced 44 goals across all competitions for Chicago, including 34 over the past 18 months.

What to watch: The remaining transfer formalities will determine when Cuypers can join Monterrey. Chicago must also fill his vacant MLS All-Star place before the July 29 match.
