What happened: Colson Montgomery rolled an RBI double down the left-field line in the top of the seventh, and Kyle Teel came home on the play. Austin Hedges had the relay for a tag attempt, but the ball got away at the plate.

Why it matters: The play widened the gap deep into ALDS Game 1 in Cleveland, leaving the Guardians fewer innings to erase a multi-run deficit. In a short series, one extra run on a bang-bang play can reshape how the late innings are managed.

By the numbers: Montgomery had already reached 20 homers by June 19 and later broke the single-season strikeout record on Sept. 26; Teel hit a 424-foot homer on Sept. 24.

What to watch: Watch whether Cleveland can answer before the game turns fully to the bullpen. If the margin holds close, the play at the plate will stay central to the finish.
