What happened: The NBA established initial group standings following the opening night of the Emirates NBA Cup group stage on Friday. Opening fixtures set the early table across the tournament format as teams opened pool play. The results determine early positioning in the race toward knockout-round qualification.

Why it matters: Group play records and point differentials serve as primary tiebreakers for advancing to the single-elimination rounds. Every tournament matchup counts toward both the Cup standings and regular-season records. Early victories provide an immediate advantage in securing wild-card berths and group titles.

What to watch: Group play continues on designated tournament nights through late November before the knockout rounds begin in December.
