What happened: League and players' union representatives told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero on Saturday morning that the NFL's inaugural game in Paris will proceed despite ongoing protests across the French capital. Earlier in the week, the league heightened security for the international matchup as local businesses boarded up storefronts and police stepped in to control crowds in the Latin Quarter.

Why it matters: Calling off an overseas game on the eve of kickoff would have created major logistical and scheduling hurdles for the league ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline. Playing as scheduled also keeps the AFC North race moving after Cleveland defeated Baltimore 13-10 to take the conference's No. 4 seed.

By the numbers: Pittsburgh enters at 4-2 (AFC No. 6 seed, W2 streak) after beating Tampa Bay 26-19 on Oct. 18. New Orleans enters at 2-4 (NFC No. 10 seed, W1 streak) after defeating the New York Giants 34-27 on Oct. 18.

What to watch: Both teams take the field Sunday in Paris, where the Saints also plan to host a fan event postponed from Saturday after the Steelers canceled their own weekend gathering.
