What happened: Shohei Ohtani said his swing feels "really good overall" after what he described as a productive stretch over the last few days. He added that he has not yet decided whether offseason work on his left knee and right bicep will be necessary and will manage both for now.

Why it matters: The Dodgers are carrying a less-than-full-strength middle-of-the-order bat into October, making Ohtani's day-to-day maintenance a central variable in the NLDS. That follows Ohtani saying Friday that his swing was in a better place for the playoffs, even as he continues to play through both issues.

By the numbers: Ohtani hit .232 with six homers over his last 35 games before this update. In his Sept. 25 return, all three tracked swings topped 98 mph, including a 103.9 mph exit velocity.

What to watch: The next read comes when the Dodgers set their lineup and workload for the NLDS opener. Any change in Ohtani's usage would offer a clearer measure of how much the knee and bicep are affecting him.
