What happened: Formenton becomes the third player acquitted in the Hockey Canada sexual assault case to land an NHL contract since the trial concluded in July 2025. Carter Hart and Dillon Dube also signed deals following their acquittals.

Why it matters: The NHL reinstated all five acquitted players in 2025, making them eligible to play beginning Dec. 1 that year. The contract gives Formenton a route back to NHL competition for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

By the numbers: Formenton, 26, spent three of the past four seasons playing in Switzerland and one out of hockey.

What to watch: Training camp will determine where Formenton fits in the forward lineup.
