What happened: The Baltimore Orioles are hiring Jared Banner as general manager, per ESPN's Jeff Passan. Banner served as an assistant general manager with the Chicago Cubs. He joins Mike Elias in Baltimore's leadership after executive stints with the Cubs, Mets and Red Sox.

Why it matters: The move pairs Elias with an executive with nearly two decades across three clubs. Banner brings recent National League front-office experience from Chicago to an American League East operation. The structure adds a second veteran voice to Baltimore's baseball decisions entering the offseason.

What to watch: Baltimore heads into the offseason with its leadership pairing set. Personnel and roster decisions will show how duties divide between Elias and Banner.
