Who had the better May? Cristopher Sánchez: 4-0, 39 IP, 25 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 45 K, 0.00 ERA, 1.06 FIP Jacob Misiorowski: 5 Via @JeffPassan on X

What happened: Jeff Passan posed a side-by-side comparison of two starting pitchers' May performances. Cristopher Sánchez went 4-0 over 39 innings with a 0.00 ERA, 45 strikeouts and zero runs allowed. Jacob Misiorowski countered with a 5-0 mark, 57 strikeouts and a 0.23 ERA across 38.1 innings.

Why it matters: The matchup highlights two of the National League's most dominant arms during a single calendar month, fueling a public debate over who was more untouchable. Sánchez's run of zero runs allowed extends a stretch that has already drawn national attention, as the same Cristopher Sánchez who set a Phillies consecutive-innings record continues to climb the league's leaderboards. Misiorowski's higher strikeout total and elite peripherals keep the comparison genuinely close.

By the numbers: Sánchez (May): 4-0, 39 IP, 25 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 45 K, 0.00 ERA, 1.06 FIP. Misiorowski (May): 5-0, 38.1 IP, 14 H, 1 R, 6 BB, 57 K, 0.23 ERA, 0.63 FIP. Misiorowski edges the strikeout count (57 to 45) and FIP (0.63 to 1.06), while Sánchez holds the only spotless run total (0 to 1).

What to watch: Watch whether either pitcher carries the form into June and how their teams lean on them down the stretch.
