What happened: Pittsburgh continues camp with attention on defensive depth and forward versatility. Owen Pickering and Harrison Brunicke draw attention as close to NHL-ready options on the blue line. Atley Calvert earns notice for two-way play and forecheck work, while Tristan Broz and Chase Pietila earn notice for positioning and decision-making.

Why it matters: Defensive openings shape early roster decisions, with Ryan Graves, Jake Livanavage and Owen Pickering among the options in the mix. Avery Hayes and Rutger Mcgroarty remain part of the forward conversation alongside Calvert and Broz, giving Pittsburgh multiple developmental paths.

What to watch: Camp practices determine which defenders hold in the NHL group and which forwards sustain their reads in game action.
