What happened: PFF published an updated quarterback ranking Sept. 30 during the 2026 regular season. The update placed Patrick Mahomes, Brock Purdy and Bryce Young in the riser tier, with Jordan Love, Justin Herbert and Drake Maye in the faller tier.

Why it matters: Mahomes entered the update with a 91.4 PFF offensive grade, the quarterback lead on Sept. 29. Purdy topped Week 2 passing grades at 94.2 and had yet to take a sack through Sept. 28, form that supports the upward sorting.

By the numbers: Deep big-time throw rate: Mahomes 62.5%, Purdy 57.1%. Week 2 PFF passing grade: Purdy 94.2. PFF offensive grade Sept. 29: Mahomes 91.4.

What to watch: The next weekly PFF update will show whether Week 4 play holds the current riser-faller split.
