What happened: The Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly interested in New York Mets reliever Luke Weaver as they evaluate options ahead of the trade deadline. The club is also exploring solutions for its fifth-starter vacancy, with Casey Mize and Ryan Yarbrough emerging as potential candidates.

Why it matters: Securing reliable pitching depth is a priority for Philadelphia as it navigates a tight market for starting arms. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Seth Halvorsen from the Colorado Rockies, removing one right-handed option from the board.

What to watch: Watch for Philadelphia to formalize its interest in Weaver or shift focus to securing a reliable back-end starter before the August 3 cutoff.
