What happened: The Phoenix Suns added an Arizona-raised player who was born in Gilbert, won four state titles at Perry High School and became a three-time Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year. He also helped the University of Arizona reach its first Final Four since 2001 before landing with Phoenix.

Why it matters: The move gives Phoenix a young local piece tied closely to the state's basketball pipeline entering the 2026-27 season. It also fits an offseason reset built around adding younger, lower-cost talent around the roster.

What to watch: Next comes Phoenix's formal roster plan for summer league and training camp. His early role will depend on how quickly he earns frontcourt minutes in the Suns' revamped rotation.
