What happened: The 29-year-old right-hander was designated for assignment on Friday to clear 40-man roster space. Pittsburgh made the move to accommodate left-handed pitcher Brandon Eisert and infielder Jacob Gonzalez after acquiring both from the Chicago White Sox.

Why it matters: Baltimore acquires low-cost relief depth without surrendering minor league talent to bolster its middle innings. Sanders totaled 15 appearances for Pittsburgh across the 2025 and 2026 seasons, recording an 8.44 cumulative ERA.

By the numbers: In nine major league outings this season, Sanders allowed nine hits and walked 10 batters across 9.1 innings while striking out 13. In 22 appearances and one start with Triple-A Indianapolis in 2026, the right-hander posted a 2.96 ERA with one save and 44 strikeouts across 24.1 innings.

What to watch: Sanders will report to the Baltimore Orioles organization as the club determines his bullpen assignment.
