What happened: Los Angeles has split preseason opportunities between its backup candidates through two games. The finale offers one last game evaluation before the regular season.

Why it matters: The winner will enter the season as the Rams’ primary reserve quarterback. Ty Simpson’s development carries added weight after Los Angeles selected him No. 13 overall in April.

By the numbers: Simpson is 29-of-37 for 263 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions through two preseason games.

What to watch: Thursday’s workload could clarify the competition. The final depth chart will follow as Los Angeles sets its regular-season roster.
