What happened: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport flagged a notable Washington sports double: the Wizards landed the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery, and the Commanders are set to host the NFL Draft next year. The NBA confirmed Washington atop the lottery, followed by Utah, Memphis and Chicago.

Why it matters: The convergence puts Washington at the center of two league-wide marquee events in consecutive offseasons, a boost for local sponsorship, tourism and franchise momentum. For the Commanders, hosting the 2027 NFL Draft amplifies the front-office and stadium narrative as the team builds toward the 2026 season.

What to watch: Watch for the Commanders' 2027 NFL Draft host logistics and venue confirmation, and how the Wizards leverage the No. 1 selection through the May combine and June draft.
