Red Bull runs title-winning RB8 on Madrid Metro rails

Madrid returns to the F1 calendar after 45 years.

What happened: Bespoke lightweight wheels let the 2012 car use the rail gauge without altering the RB8 or the tracks. The run passed Estadio Metropolitano and the Sacedal and Chamartín depots during a brief network closure.

Why it matters: A new Metro station inside the Madring complex will provide direct circuit access for spectators. The stunt links the transit system to this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix.

By the numbers: The RB8 won both 2012 world championships. Madrid plans Metro service increases of up to 250% on Lines 4, 5 and 8 for the race weekend.
