What happened: Riley Leonard completed a well-placed pass in Saturday's preseason game. The throw came during the final week of the 2026 preseason.

Why it matters: The outing offered Leonard another evaluation point in the competition for a backup quarterback role. His earlier preseason performances left room for a stronger closing impression.

By the numbers: Leonard entered Week 3 completing 17 of 35 passes for 151 yards, no touchdowns and one interception across two preseason games.

What to watch: The next decision is whether Leonard earns the backup role when the preseason evaluation closes.
