What happened: Rockies outfielder Jake McCarthy is drawing attention for the football-honed speed he carries from Scranton, Pennsylvania, credited for a string of inside-the-park home runs this season. McCarthy is the same Jake McCarthy who legged out a leadoff inside-the-park home run earlier this year. Colorado hosts Cincinnati Saturday with the Rockies scoreless and the game not yet underway.

Why it matters: McCarthy's wheels have become a recurring theme for a Rockies club mired in a 35-55 season and a three-game losing streak. Purple Row has already flagged him as a candidate for a third inside-the-park homer this year, a rare feat tied directly to his speed profile rather than power.

What to watch: Rockies and Reds play again Saturday at Coors Field, with Colorado looking to snap its three-game skid.
