What happened: Keibert Ruiz and James Wood connected on back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning, putting the Nationals ahead of the Yankees. Ruiz tied the game before Wood followed with the go-ahead shot.

Why it matters: The swing comes a day after New York beat Washington 5-3, and continues the same James Wood who launched a 428-foot blast for his 23rd home run of the season in July. Washington entered the day 48-46 with a share-the-lead-with-power profile, averaging 5.4 runs a game.

By the numbers: Ruiz's homer went 371 feet at 98.7 mph off the bat. Wood's followed at 419 feet, 105.5 mph exit velocity — his 26th of the season.

What to watch: Washington looks to hold the lead as the game continues into the late innings.
