SAB TIED THE LYNX IN THIRD QUARTER POINTS 🤯 https://t.co/XF4ukW4ybd Via @justwsports on X

What happened: During Sunday's 90-85 contest at Target Center, Sabrina Ionescu generated as many third-period points as the entire Minnesota Lynx rotation combined. New York erased a second-half deficit behind the guard's offensive surge before securing the decision.

Why it matters: Minnesota entered the matchup allowing just 80.9 points per game, ranking among the premier defensive groups across the 2026 WNBA campaign. Despite the third-quarter concession, the Lynx maintain a 17-6 record and hold first place in the league standings. Maintaining defensive consistency through all four quarters remains critical as Minnesota prepares to host the Phoenix Mercury on Monday night.

By the numbers: Minnesota averages 90.0 points scored per contest compared to 80.9 allowed through 23 regular-season appearances. In two prior meetings against Phoenix this season, the Lynx scored 111 points on June 1 and 88 points on May 12.

What to watch: Minnesota hosts the Phoenix Mercury on Monday at Target Center with tipoff scheduled during the evening slate. The Lynx aim to preserve their top seed before entering the upcoming All-Star break.
