What happened: An NHL.com item says Schaefer signed on as a Hockey Fights Cancer champion, an ambassador role tied to the NHL and NHLPA initiative. The article was originally published in December 2025 and has resurfaced in the Hockey Fights Cancer news feed.

Why it matters: The role connects a prominent young NHL figure to the league's cancer-awareness platform rather than a roster transaction or game development. It also fits with recent Wire Report coverage of Schaefer's rise as a top rookie, keeping his off-ice profile in view during the postseason.

What to watch: Watch for any new NHL or NHLPA campaign activation tied to Schaefer's ambassador role. Further updates would likely come through Hockey Fights Cancer programming rather than team transaction channels.
