What happened: Indianapolis Colts principal owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon fired general manager Chris Ballard this week amid a 2-4 start, fueling speculation around Jonathan Taylor drawing trade interest from multiple clubs. However, Yahoo NFL notes that Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider is unlikely to package rookie running back Jadarian Price and future draft picks for a back approaching age 28. Schneider stated in March that teams can find running backs without overpaying, and cutting Taylor next year on his three-year extension would leave a $10 million dead-cap charge.

Why it matters: Seattle (3-3) has favored a backfield committee rather than a single high-volume runner while installing head coach Mike Macdonald's Shanahan-style rushing attack to support quarterback Sam Darnold. The Seahawks remain shorthanded in the backfield entering Sunday's matchup against the 5-0 Kansas City Chiefs, with Zach Charbonnet ruled out due to a knee injury after returning from the physically unable to perform list and Price still on injured reserve. Indianapolis pushed its chips in last season behind quarterback Daniel Jones and a trade for cornerback Sauce Gardner, who is currently out, before Jones suffered a season-ending injury and the club slid to 12th in the AFC.

By the numbers: Taylor averages 82 rushing yards per game in 2026, tied for seventh in the NFL, and his 7 rushing touchdowns are tied for first among running backs. His three-year extension averages roughly $20 million per season in cap charges with a $10 million dead-cap hit if released next year. Seattle enters Week 7 as the NFC's No. 8 seed at 3-3 on a two-game losing streak, Indianapolis holds the AFC's No. 12 seed at 2-4 after two straight losses, and Kansas City leads at 5-0.

What to watch: Seattle faces Kansas City on Sunday without Charbonnet, while Macdonald expects Price to return from injured reserve shortly after Week 7. Indianapolis is expected to take one to two weeks to set its trade deadline direction as clubs inquire about its veteran core.
