What happened: SEC said 19 former athletes from nine schools were represented in the MLB Wild Card round this week. The count spans the opening round of the postseason as clubs try to advance into the Division Series.

Why it matters: The total gives the conference a broad October footprint beyond campus baseball. Wild Card games are the first postseason step, so every advancement keeps SEC alumni in the bracket and extends the league's visibility deeper into October.

What to watch: Watch how many of those alumni remain once the Wild Card round is complete and Division Series rosters take shape.
