What happened: Japanese right-handed pitcher Kaima Taira of the Saitama Seibu Lions has entered Major League Baseball's posting system. The 26-year-old finished the 2026 Nippon Professional Baseball season with a 12-5 record, a 1.36 ERA, and 141 strikeouts in 146 innings.

Why it matters: Taira enters the major-league market in his prime, turning 27 on November 15 with sustained dominance in Japan. His 1.78 career ERA across eight NPB seasons establishes him as one of the premier international arms available this winter.

What to watch: MLB clubs will begin formal negotiations with Taira as his posting window opens for the winter.
