What happened: John Lynch said he shared John Wooden's advice about letting competitors worry with Kyle Shanahan. Los Angeles acquired Myles Garrett in June, prompting Shanahan's profane dismissal of the maxim.

Why it matters: San Francisco must now prepare for two divisional matchups against the NFL's single-season sack record holder. Garrett's arrival gives Los Angeles a proven centerpiece for its 2026 pass rush.

By the numbers: Garrett recorded an NFL-record 23 sacks while facing a league-high 139 chip blocks.

What to watch: The teams meet in the 2026 season opener at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Training camp will show how each side plans for the matchup.
