What happened: Tarik Skubal is lined up to start Saturday's NLDS opener at Dodger Stadium for Los Angeles against Atlanta. The Dodgers acquired him from Detroit on Aug. 2 to front the postseason rotation, and Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic first reported the Game 1 assignment.

Why it matters: The start gives the same Skubal the Dodgers landed at the deadline the first shot in a series built around Los Angeles' remade rotation. It also keeps Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow available behind him, giving Dave Roberts multiple frontline options as the NLDS unfolds.

By the numbers: Across six postseason starts in 2024-25, Skubal logged a 2.04 ERA with 56 strikeouts, five unintentional walks and at least six innings in every outing. In 10 starts with the Dodgers after the trade, he posted a 2.61 ERA, 2.84 xERA, 70 strikeouts and 13 walks over 62 innings.

What to watch: Game 1 is set for Saturday in Los Angeles. The next rotation decision to watch is how Roberts orders Yamamoto, Snell and Glasnow for the rest of the series.
