What happened: The run spans four innings' worth of perfect work after Drake Baldwin opened with a single. Skubal was up to five strikeouts during the stretch, including a third inning in which he struck out the side.

Why it matters: A sequence like that can erase early traffic and keep a starter on schedule deep into a game. In October, extended clean innings also let managers hold back leverage relievers until the late frames.

By the numbers: Twelve consecutive outs equals four perfect innings' worth of batters retired. The streak began immediately after Baldwin's leadoff single and included at least five strikeouts.

What to watch: Watch whether Skubal carries the streak far enough to face the order a third time and whether Baldwin gets another shot to break it.
