What happened: A called third strike was confirmed after an ABS challenge in MLB play. The call stayed with the plate umpire after review by the automated ball-strike system.

Why it matters: The sequence adds another live test case for MLB's challenge-based strike zone system during the 2026 regular season. Each upheld call gives the league more public evidence on how players, pitchers and umpires handle review limits in real game flow.

By the numbers: Wire.report has logged at least five ABS challenge items in 2026, including calls confirmed as Ball 1, Ball 2 and Strike 2.

What to watch: Watch whether MLB continues expanding ABS challenge exposure before finalizing future regular-season rules.
