What happened: Hayes’ latest stint lasted six days after he rejoined the roster Aug. 21. He had also been waived Aug. 15 before returning later that week.

Why it matters: The transaction reshapes the receiver competition as the preseason nears its end. Washington gets a short evaluation window before final roster decisions.

By the numbers: Washington recorded three catches across six appearances in 2025. Hayes totaled 227 receiving yards, 107 rushing yards and two receiving touchdowns in 2025.

What to watch: Washington’s role in the remaining preseason work will show how quickly he enters the receiver rotation.
