What happened: Houston Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said running back David Montgomery is considered week to week with a groin injury. The label keeps Montgomery out of a fixed return date and ties his availability to weekly evaluation.

Why it matters: The designation shapes Houston's backfield workload in the 2026 regular season. Weekly evaluation determines whether the Texans adjust carries behind Montgomery.

What to watch: Watch Houston's practice participation for Montgomery's status for the next game.
